Over 40,000 Anticipated to Attend WWE's 'Royal Rumble' Spectacle at Tropicana Field

Preparations Underway for WWE's 'Royal Rumble' Extravaganza at Tropicana Field

St. Petersburg is gearing up for what Police Chief Anthony Holloway has dubbed the city's equivalent of the World Series. With WWE's highly anticipated Royal Rumble event set to take place on Saturday, expectations are high for a crowd exceeding 40,000 at Tropicana Field.

"When people step into the arena, they'll feel that electric atmosphere," remarked wrestler Kofi Kingston. "It's as if the roof could explode with excitement at any moment."

This marks the first time since 1995 that the Royal Rumble will grace the Tampa Bay area, a fact not lost on the wrestling community. "This place holds significant memories for many of us," expressed wrestler Chad Gable. "It's where our journeys began, where we honed our craft. It's truly special."

St. Pete is bracing for visitors from across the nation and around 15 different countries. According to Visit St. Pete Clearwater, last year's Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Texas, generated a staggering $69 million in economic impact. Similar figures are expected for the Tampa Bay Area this year, with an additional $1.6 million anticipated from media exposure during the TV broadcast.

"For someone like me, coming from Europe, WWE was a distant spectacle in my youth. It's only upon moving here and witnessing it firsthand that I grasped its magnitude," shared wrestler Gunther. "When WWE descends upon a city for a major event like the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, it's akin to hosting the Champions League final in a European town."

For wrestlers, the Royal Rumble represents a culmination of their year-long endeavors. "This is one of our many Super Bowls, leading the charge to WrestleMania," emphasized WWE Superstar and Global Ambassador Titus O’Neil.

The Royal Rumble match itself promises thrilling action, with thirty men and thirty women vying for victory and a chance to headline WrestleMania. "Every minute, another competitor enters the ring, so at any given moment, there could be up to 30 individuals battling it out," explained Kingston. "The only way to be eliminated is by being thrown over the top rope with both feet touching the floor."

"For those of us who've been fans since childhood, winning the Royal Rumble is the ultimate dream. It's the gateway to headlining WrestleMania, something we've fantasized about since day one," Kingston added.

Beyond the economic boost, WWE also engages in community events during their visits. Parking at Tropicana Field is already sold out, prompting officials to recommend downtown lots listed on St. Pete’s website, with a free shuttle service available to transport fans to the arena.

In terms of transportation, officials advise utilizing the SunRunner on Saturday, offering a discount with the promo code WWE on an unlimited day pass via the Flamingo Fares App.

Prepaid parking lots open their gates at 12 p.m. on Saturday, exclusively for ticket holders. The event gates swing open at 5:30 p.m., with the pre-show commencing at 7:30 p.m. and the main event kicking off at 8 p.m.
